Course overview

This module is aimed at professionals who work with children particularly those of you working in early years, health, social care and education.

The purpose of this module is to equip you with knowledge that will help you to identify and fulfil your safeguarding responsibilities effectively. This is particularly important within the changing context of law, policy and service development. The module also aims to promote inter-professional understanding of multi-agency and multi-disciplinary working in the field of safeguarding children.
On completing the module you will have a critical understanding of: the concepts of safeguarding and protecting children; relevant concepts relating to the safeguarding and protecting of children; categories, indicators and explanations of abuse; the contexts and settings in which children need to be safeguarded and protected; current legal and policy context relevant to the safeguarding / child protection agenda; the factors inherent within accountable practice; the theoretical frameworks and models underpinning safeguarding / child protection work; and the roles and responsibilities of professionals and agencies.

You will also be able to identify the existing and prospective knowledge and skills needed to work in partnership with children, families, professionals and agencies. These are in-demand skills which can be drawn upon as your career progresses.
